Your Eye Exam Journey in 6 Simple Steps
Step 1
Booking Your Appointment
Appointments are encouraged to secure your preferred time, though walk-ins are welcomed when available.
You can book online, call us, or visit your nearest branch. It’s fast, easy, and ensures you get the attention you deserve.
Step 2
Your Pre-Screening Experience
Once you arrive and check in, our customer service team will guide you through a few quick and painless pre-tests before you see the optometrist. These may include:
- Retinal imaging to get a picture of the back of your eye
- Intraocular pressure test to screen for glaucoma
- Visual field screening to check peripheral vision
This information helps the optometrist get a full understanding of your eye health right from the start.
Step 3
The Eye Exam with an Optometrist
Now it’s time to meet the expert! Your comprehensive eye exam typically takes about 20–30 minutes and includes:
A. Your Medical & Vision History
We’ll talk about your symptoms—any blurriness, headaches, light sensitivity—and review your medical history, current medication, and lifestyle. This helps us tailor your care specifically to you.
B. Eye Health Evaluation
Using special instruments, the optometrist will check the inside and outside of your eyes. For patients over 40, we may recommend additional testing like visual field exams or optical coherence tomography (OCT).
C. Vision Check & Prescription
You’ll be asked to read letters and compare lenses (“Which looks better: lens 1 or lens 2?”) to determine the exact prescription for glasses or contact lenses.
D. Eye Muscle Testing
We’ll check how your eyes work together—important for daily activities like driving, reading, and working on a screen.
Step 4
Extra Tests—Only If Needed
Step 5
Choosing Your Frames or Contact Lenses
Once your prescription is set, you’ll work with our optical team to:
- Choose from hundreds of stylish, affordable, and premium frames
- Learn about lens options like anti-reflective coatings, blue-light filters, Transitions®, and Camber® digital progressive lenses
- Get fitted for contact lenses (if preferred), including proper wear and care tips
And don’t worry—we’ll make sure everything fits your face comfortably and looks great!
Step 6
Collecting Your Glasses
Once your glasses are ready, just stop by your branch!
We’ll adjust the frames to suit your face and go over how to clean and care for them. We also offer free in-store adjustments and minor repairs as part of your Value Optical service.
Whether it’s your first eye exam or just time for your annual check-up, knowing what to expect can take the stress out of the process. At Value Optical, we pride ourselves on offering professional, thorough, and friendly care at every step—so you can see better and feel better every day.
